Germany Approve First 'Social Cannabis Club'
With Germany entering a new chapter for cannabis regulation the approval of its first social club has been granted by the Government of Lower Saxony, which is the countries second most popular state. According to Euro News, the new club Social Club Ganderskee was given the go-ahead on the 8th of July 2024.
In February a new cannabis law was passed in Germany and then took effect on April 1 this year, individuals can establish cannabis cultivation clubs - non profit organisations where members can obtain cannabis for personal use. Unlike Canada, Germany does not offer commercial cannabis opportunities. The club have strict rules and are limited to 500 members and they must always adhere to strict regulations which concern location, memberships and operations. Each member can receive upto 50 grams which is approximately 1.8 ounces a month, or this is limited to 30 grams a month if the individual is under 21. The new law grants states flexibility in determining the specific regulations for these clubs to run safely and successfully.
While Lower Saxony in northwest Germany quickly approved cultivation social clubs, other regions, including Bavaria - the countries largest state - are making considerations to impose additional restrictions, as reported by Euro News. It doesn't appear these other states will make a decision until autumn time at the earliest. Written by Laura Bartlett 14/08/2024 at 17:32pm
